Tears! Fire Smashes Property Worth Millions In Gulu

By Our Reporter

Furniture worth 50 million shillings was last evening destroyed after a fire gutted a workshop in Gulu city.

It is reported that the fire was sparked off after particles from a welding site accidentally landed on cushions used for making sofa set chairs. The fire quickly spread from the cushions to the furniture before bursting into a blaze and destroying welding and carpentry machines.

The police fire brigade arrived at the scene in time to stop the conflagration from spreading to the neighbouring businesses.

According to Superintendent of Police Ouni Dick, “Our police fire brigade team was able to cut it off from spreading to other buildings and from spreading to the nearby petrol stations which are here, that is Rock petrol station and Shine energy petrol station”.

Ouni who is the regional Fire officer for Aswa West confirmed that no injuries and deaths were registered.

Speaking to the NilePost, the devasted workshop’s proprietor called for support to get the business back to its feet.

“I appeal to any well-wisher who can donate to support us so that we start from there,” said Oryem Richard, a carpenter and the owner of the workshop.

The workshop employs six people and a few trainees.
